Who Will It Be?

Madrid

On October 2nd in Copenhagen Denmark, the International Olympic Committee will vote on which country will host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Such decisions are of course eagerly anticipated, and one of the primary reasons countries and specific cities like to host the Olympic Games are to promote tourism and travel to the region.  To show the world what they have to offer.

There are four potential candidates to host the 2016 Summer Games:

Chicago, United States
Madrid, Spain
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Tokyo, Japan

The committee will also decide on the inclusion of any new sports for the 2016 games.

This is not the only significant event Copenhagen is hosting this fall.  They will also host the United Nations Climate Change Conference December 7-18.

My prediction is that Madrid Spain will win the bid, which is why I included a photo of Real Madrid Stadium. Who do you think will be chosen?

Mamma Mia

If there was ever a good reason to buy a lottery ticket this must be it.

The national lottery in Italy has rolled over 82 times & the jackpot now stands at £113,000,000 that's R1,469,000,000, which makes it Europe's biggest ever lottery prize & it's up for grabs.

I’m in the process of Googling ‘Italian Lottery’ checking how I can participate online, but I guess I’ll still be here next week.

Nairobi National Park – just around the corner

Hemma_nationalparken_115Just a fifteen minute drive from Nairobi´s city centre you´ll find the Nairobi National Park. You can either choose to visit the park using your own car, as part of a tour or even by public transport. You´ll get the chance to see lions, giraffes, black rhinos, leopards, zebras and many other animals. It also has a rich birdlife with 400 species recorded. If you can do without the elephants (they eat too much vegetation and are banned  from the park) this is a nice alternative if you don´t have time to go to Masai Mara.

The park is big (117 square kilometres) and you can ask the guards by the entrance to give advice on where to spot your favourite animals. Make sure you come there early in the morning before it gets to hot since it´s more difficult to spot them when they are hiding in the shade somewhere.Hemma_nationalparken_077

You´ll forget that the city is just around the corner, but then suddenly you see the skyline in the distance and a savannah with giraffes in front. It gives you one of those ´aha´ moments that will take the breath out of your colleagues when telling them during coffee break back at work!

Entrance fee: 40USD (for non residents)
Opening hours: 6am to 6 pm (Mon-Sun)

China now has the largest casino in the world

MacauOn September the first the Venetian Macau, a manmade city which is a combination of a resort, hotel and casino, opened its door for the first time. So actually the world´s largest casino is now located in the world´s largest communist country, China and it´s probably true that somewhere in Beijing Mao Zedong rolls over in his mausoleum.

As the name reviels the casino has a Venetian theme, and there are rivers, 30 restaurants and 3000 rooms, starting at around $203 a night. The complex also houses more than a million square feet of meeting space and there´s a 15000-seat arena. This all means that the Venetian Macao is three times larger than the biggest casino in Vegas. It has 150 V.I.P tables in 50 private gaming suites and lounges. The minimum amount to bet is $2,500 and that´s 100 times more than in a main casino.
